Hall 1 is dedicated to the people of Townsville. It contains a rotating exhibition of individual histories and the fascinating artefact displays are also linked to local personalities.  Part of the display space features temporary exhibits - maybe a display of Townsville clothes or a commemoration of a local event. Our current display features early Townsville businesses. You will especially enjoy our small, but excellent, collection of typewriters.

materia medica Hall One also contains a major display of medical equipment. This display comprises one of Australia's biggest collections of medical instruments. Also in this part of our Museum, we are displaying a fascinating collection of pharmacist's ingredients and tools, from early Townsville chemist, William Green.
Millie McLachlan Townsville museum hosts a collection of 3000 dolls that belonged to Townsville resident, Millie McLachlan. The current display shows a selection of dolls from around the  world.
John Johnson Find out more about the life and work of Townsville artist and craftsman John Johnson. Townsville museum holds one of his world famous violas as well as this beautiful portrait of him at work.

Hall 2 houses our larger exhibits, and traces our history from the time of European settlement. This Hall has kitchen, parlour and school rooms as well as smaller areas. From the North Queensland Separation Flag to Townsville lodges and pubs - we have it all in Hall Two.

telegraph station display We also have a fascinating collection of tools and equipment from the now defunct trade of the telegraphic linesman. Next to this is a display of artefacts taken from the Operations room of the Overseas Telecommunications Commission (Coastal Radio Station).
printing press Hall Two houses a major history of printing in Townsville, including type setting, printing and book binding equipment. This is a new display and very comprehensive.
